Don't we all wish we had LongerDays?

Man how the time flies. It's been over a year since we stepped off our boat and walked away from our vagabond lifestyle. I can tell you that re-integrating into "normal" life is just as hard as was stepping out of it.

About 6 months after returning home I was thinking "oh no - this was a huge mistake" but I've adjusted. I started a company called LongerDays.com and it's taken a HUGE amount of effort.

I can't believe how much "stuff" we suddenly we "need"! A dinner set for 12 people, just for thanksgiving? Sheets, comforters, pillows... for the spare bedroom. And of course we could never get by with out our trusty cell phones.

Everything we used to own would fit on the 35 foot boat... Now we have stuff we "need" that we put it in Tupperware bins in the attic. I hear a little voice in my head saying "the things you own end up owning you."

I still can't wait to get back on a boat. We're living frugal, saving as much money as we can for the next boat.

One thing I've realized after coming home... too many people let life slide by. There are no excuses. There is no one holding you back. People take life too seriously anyhow. When it comes down to it, none of us get out of here alive! So you really have nothing to lose. We all get a handful of years that we can use however we want to. So make your life the one you always wanted!

  1. Just stumbled on your blog and very much enjoyed reading it and viewing your pictures ! My husband and I just hauled our boat after cruising for 1.5 years - and are now sadly returning to the landlubber life (and jobs). All the best, "Lucky Escape"

  2. I've enjoyed following you and leann's adventure. My husband and I admire you guys and wish we would have had opportunities ( or ideas to do something like buy a sailboat and CRUISE!) before kids! We didn't even know people cruised until our neighbors left 5 years ago! One day I'd love to sail down the east coast. I really enjoy this post. I'm gona steel a line if you don't mind for my facebook status ;) Very good advise.

  3. Someday!

All it takes is money... if only we all had a little more of that!
